Day 1   Arrive Bangkok

Full-day Bangkok Highlights including lunch

This full-day tour combines the highlights of Bangkok City, including a visit to three interesting temples including Wat Trimit, otherwise known as the Temple of the Golden Buddha, which houses a 700-year-old, three-meter tall golden statue, cast from five-and-a-half tons of solid gold. Equally spectacular is Wat Po, home to a colossal reclining Buddha and a traditional massage school. The temple garden contains a Bodhi tree grown from a cutting of an original tree in India under which the Lord Buddha sat while awaiting enlightenment. The third temple we visit is Wat Phra Kaew (the Temple of the Emerald Buddha) within the Grand Palace compound, which houses the most sacred Buddhist image in Thailand. After a sumptuous lunch in a local restaurant, we will board a boat for a thrilling ride through the klongs of outer Bangkok to get a closer look at the rural lifestyle. Then we board a converted Rice Barge for a cruise on the bigger canals and the Chao Phraya River. Cold drinks and tropical fruits will be served on board the barge.

DAY 3 Bangkok – Ratchaburi – Kanchanaburi B, L, D

Depart to visit Damnoen Saduak Floating Market situated 110 kms.  west of Bangkok. Enjoy an exhilarating ride by a narrow long-tailed boat through the marshes and stilt houses.  

Continue to Kanchanaburi where you experience an exciting train ride on the original “Death Railway”.  Also visit Thailand – Burma Railway Center and Cemetery of the allied prisoners of World War II.

Lunch is included at local restaurant.

Proceed to hotel in Kanchanaburi for one night stay.

Evening – one hour Thai Massage and dinner at hotel.

DAY 4 Kanchanaburi – Ayutthaya – Phitsanilouk – Sukhothai B, L, D

Depart from Kanchanaburi via Suphan Buri to the Ancient Capital city of Thailand – Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam and visit the ruins of this ancient capital city.

Continue driving further north to Phitsanulok to visit the much-venerated shrine of Wat Mahathat, which is home to Thailand’s most beautiful Buddha image. It is one of the most highly revered images in the country, which makes the temple an important pilgrimage site for Thai Buddhists.

Then drive to Sukhothai for overnight and dinner at the hotel

DAY 5 Sukhothai – Lampang B, L, D

Morning, continue onto Wat Mahathat and Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Explore the many ruined temples, monasteries and Buddha figures, including Wat Si Chum with its stunning seated Buddha.

Lunch is included at local restaurant.

Then continue driving further north through beautiful rural countryside to Lampang – stop to visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang to see the exquisite Emerald Buddha, the only one outside Bangkok and   Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao, one of the most revered Buddhist Temples of Thailand.

After touring, proceed to hotel in Lampang for one night stay

DAY 6 LampangChiang Rai                              B, L

After breakfast at hotel, depart Lampang for Chiang Rai with a stop at the small town of Phayao, to enjoy refreshments beside a lake.   Continue to Chiang Rai – stop for lunch at local restaurant and visit Wat Rong Khun (White Temple).

Enjoy a pleasant tour around Chiang Rai’s residential area and market place and visit Wat Phra Kaew which once, during the 13th century, housed the Emerald Buddha now in Bangkok. Chiang Rai is a bustling provincial capital with a definite rural atmosphere.

You will then visit colorful Wat Rong Seua Ten, also known as the Blue Temple. A relatively new temple, well known for its magnificent blue interior, colorful painted murals and white Buddha statue. Explore Baan Dam, the so-called Black House isn’t just one structure, but a collection of around 40 buildings of varying shapes and sizes dotted around a peaceful garden. Part art studio, part museum, part home, Baan Dam is an eclectic mix of traditional northern Thai buildings interspersed with some outlandish modern designs made of animal skins and bone structures.

Visit to Wat Phra Singh which the Ubosoth contains several replicas of the Pra Singh or Pra Buddhasihing image, a cultural landmark in the history of the Lanka wong Theravada Sect of Buddhism in Thailand

If time permits, you will visit 9-storey Pagoda/Wat Huai Pla Kang.  Resided here is the crafted sandalwood Bodhisattva Goddess Statue of Guan Yin. Each story of the pagoda boasts the principal Buddha statues.

DAY 7 Chiang Rai                                        B, L

Visit the Doi Tung Hill tribe village and learn about one of Thailand’s many Royal Projects. Visit Doi Tung Royal Villa, the former mountain retreat of the King’s Mother.

Lunch at a local restaurant

Drive to Mae Sai, cross the Sai River to Myanmar and witness local Burmese in nearby village.  Explore the colourful markets and the Shan style temples on a rickshaw. Enjoy a scenic boat trip along the Mekong River to the Golden Triangle area, and a visit to the Opium Museum. Visit Wat Pa Sak (Teak Forest Temple) in Chiang Saen.

On the way to the hotel, you will visit the Akha Hill tribe.

DAY 8 Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai                          B, L

This morning, you will drive overland to Chiang Mai (approximately 4 hours).

Upon arrival, you will proceed to visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep & White Meo Hill Tribe.

This trip to the mountains invigorates both mind and soul! A relaxing drive takes us up the slopes of Doi Suthep to visit a Meo hill tribe to observe their simple way of life. The Meo tribe originated in South China and usually live on mountain peaks or plateaus above 3,000 feet. There are several groups of Meo hill tribes but the Blue Meo and the White Meo tribal groups are the largest in numbers. These groups are distinguished by their costume and despite their name, the White Meo wear a black costumes. This tour offers a spectacular view of Northern Thailand as we travel on mountain roads and through forest scenery, ending with a visit to the 600 year-old Doi Suthep Temple near the summit of Doi Suthep. The final climb to the site is via a magnificent Naga (dragon-headed serpents) staircase of 306 steps. Inside is an intriguing copper-plated chedi topped by a five-tier gold umbrella which contains partial relics of Lord Buddha.

 Optional: Half Day Tour Elephant Owner For A Day at Patara Elephant Farm – Join Basis

Duration: 07:30 – 15:30 hrs

Pick up you from hotel in Chiang Mai city and transfer to Patara Elephant Farm, during the transfer briefing on the history of domestic elephant in Thailand. Arrive at the farm, followed by the registration, and get a traditional training outfit. Prepare yourself for the elephant training session, which include many activities; hiking to find the elephant in the bush. Learn about elephant farm management and the breeding program. Train to correctly approach and be near elephant. Learn to observe the elephant’s temperament. You will be introduced to every of the elephants and join the morning feed. Learn about the daily health care for the elephant, a pregnancy test for elephant and caretaking for mother with small baby. Learn about elephant skin care and bath your elephant. Learn the instructions to get on the elephant neck with different techniques, sitting on the elephant, basic riding skill and spoken commands for elephant. Practice on getting upon and coming down from the elephant. In the afternoon it’s time to Bare-back riding session. Prepare for a long uphill trip to visit a waterfall for picnic lunch and refresh in the cool water with your elephant. After enjoying the meal with your elephant, you will ride elephant trip back to farm to feed them before farewell these majestic animals followed by a transfer back to hotel.

Duration: 09:00 – 14:00 hrs

 Pick up from your hotel in Chiang Mai city and drive to Sankhampaeng District. On the way stop at a local country market where you will be guided around and learn how to select and buy the fresh Thai ingredients that will be needed for that day’s cooking lesson. this tour of the morning market is an unforgettable experience in itself, leaving them with lasting memories of new sights, sounds and wonderful spicy aromas, as well as a broader knowledge of Thai fruits, vegetables and spices. Continue to the delightful semi-rural setting of the cookery school itself, your English speaking instructor will take you through every stage of the cooking process until, at the end of the session, you will have the opportunity to taste and eat your own creations.  You will learn by doing, not merely watching, so each course is full of activity and fun. You will receive a copy of full-color cookery book that contains information about common ingredients in Thai cooking and all our recipes.  It will help you reproduce the tasty dishes you have learned, and more, in the comfort of your own home kitchen. The class ends around 14:00 hrs. and you will be transferred to your hotel.

 Optional: Evening Tour Kantoke Dinner with Show

Duration: 19:00 – 22:00 hrs

 It was not until 1953 that Kantoke became a social gathering when a local politician invited high honored guests to sit with him and enjoy this special dinner. The “Kantoke” dinner is traditionally specific to the people of the northern region.  Dinner is served in small bowls, known in Thai as Kan. Guests are seated on cushions at a low table, known as Toke in Thai. The cuisine served is northern Thai and it is prepared with the western palate in mind as traditional Thai food can be very spicy. During dinner, entertainers will perform the intricate Forn Leb finger dance; the Forn Thien candle dance; the Ramwong circle dance; and the Ram Dab sword dance. Opt for an additional hill tribe show performed by various members of the Yao, Lahu, Meo, Lisu, and Karen hill tribes after you have finished dinner.  Transfer back to hotels at the end of the evening.
